We don't get to be part of something like this very often! When we saw the Heritage Machinery Group's Facebook post about a Cat 796 Watercart they had managed to 'acquire' but needed funds to pay for, we knew this was the perfect project for us to support. This isn't just any Watercart - imported as a dump truck, its water tank designed and built by the Ministry of Works, this Watercart played a crucial role in the Upper Waitaki Power Development in its early life, gave us a wave of nostalgia. We are passionate about preserving the history of the electricity industry in New Zealand , so we decided to step in and donate the funds required to secure this piece of history. |
By doing so, we hope to keep the legacy and stories of our industry's past alive for future generations. There is a lot of work to be done, the watercart is being stored for the winter and once the weather warms up the important task of prepping and painting it will begin. Once it's ready, the Watercart will be transported to its forever home amongst the other heavy machines on display at the entrance to Twizel, all of which have an important link to the Waitaki power projects as well as the history of the town itself. We'll continue to update the progress of this project over the coming months and we're excited to see it reach displayed with the other heavy machines. Here's to celebrating our heritage and supporting the incredible work of the Heritage Machinery Group! |
